Case Study - Brislington Retail Park

« Back to all Case Studies

Friday 20th February 2009 - Brislington Retail Park, Bristol. (Goodman)

Rush hour traffic was building up on the main A4 route going East out of Bristol.

Urgent call from Goodman International helpdesk, can we urgently attend site as one of the metal signs on the entrance tower signage has come loose in the recent high wind and is now flapping 8mtrs high over the Main A4 Road, and pretentiously could fall onto on coming traffic.
The metal signage was 1.8m x 800mm.

From ProAct2it helpdesk , a call was made to ProAct2it's Project supervisor who was 10 minutes from site

A Risk assessment was immediately carried out and it was concluded the only safe way of re-fixing the sign was to either arrange for a Cherry picker who could arrive with-in the hour or contact the Emergency Fire service for assistance, however if the later, it was felt that the signage would probably be removed rather than re-fixed.

Action plan

Arranging a Cherry picker with a 8M boom at 4.30pm on a Friday afternoon
Arranging Traffic management on A4 Main road
Working at 8m high.
Obtaining the unique hex head stainless steel fixings and washers.

Results

A local hire company arrive with traffic cones at 5pm
ProAct2it’s 2 man response team arrives with Hex head stainless steel fixing at 5pm
Method statement complete, approved and faxed to Goodman via Local retail store.
Cherry picker arrives at 5.15pm
6pm -Emergency over works complete.
